My friend was visiting Delhi, India, from the USA in October and was looking for a place to visit nearby. This decision was made to undertake a weekend tour of Agra to visit the famous marvelous Taj Mahal. On the day we were planning our travel, we all looked forward to seeing this tourist-friendly historical place. We left early in the morning armed to enjoy the Taj Mahal tour from Delhi, which offered a glimpse of the Indo desert and a feel of Indian hospitality. We took the Yamuna Expressway route, meaning our journey was filled with beautiful greenery and other fascinating scenes. This blog highlights the Delhi to Taj Mahal car route, the best travel time, nearby places to visit, and essential travel Tips & information.
Best time to visit Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal is in Agra, and visiting it at the wrong time can land you in extreme heat or non-stop rain. That’s why proper planning is always a wise travel decision. Consider visiting during the cooler months, from October to March, when the weather is more comfortable in north India.
If you’re traveling from Delhi, remember the winter air pollution there. A small tip: Taj Mahal is always packed with tourists. Try to enter as early as possible (around 9 AM) to beat the crowd and avoid the midday sun. Trust me, experiencing the Taj Mahal with your loved one is truly special.
Our journey To Taj Mahal
The journey of a weekend escapade to Agra from Delhi with my friend was one of the best experiences I have ever had. This journey began early in the morning on the Yamuna Expressway, which has a scenic beauty due to the greenery around it. The first city we visited was Noida, and here we visited the vibrant Sector 18 market. We later visited Mathura and Vrindavan while observing the spiritual aura and colorful temples. The best thing I saw during the trip was the Taj Mahal, and I spent some time admiring its construction and beauty. We also visited the Agra Fort, and then had some North Indian foods like the Agra Petha candy.
Way of Delhi to Agra- Through Yamuna Expressway
We started our journey in a car through the Yamuna Expressway. Yamuna Expressway is one of the major roads connecting Delhi to Agra. There are interesting places to visit before reaching Agra. The expressway is very beautiful, with fields and small village areas along it, and it is the natural beauty of our trip. The initial stop started with driving on the Yamuna Expressway, the most famous motorway linking Delhi with Agra. This expressway is a quality six-lane highway stretching 165.5 kilometers and providing extremely comfortable and fast driving. The roads, especially the expressway, were well maintained, and the ride gave no trouble. The expressway has shortened the time and gives a journey with a beautiful view.

1. Noida
The first major stop was in Noida which is near to Yamuna Expressway. We stopped at Sector 18 Market, which is an outstanding commercialized place for purchasing food items and fashion items or even taking a break just to eat some snacks. It was active in the marketplace, which put us in a position to have quick tours through the shops and vendors selling food on the streets. After that shopping trip, we walked around the Noida Golf Course. It is a perfect place for golfers, but I recommend it for everyone who needs a little walk and a breath of fresh air on a green field.

2. Greater Noida
Riding the expressway, we decided to break the journey and diver to Greater Noida. This diversion is for a purpose-built city with large, open spaces and present-day facilities. Something that stands out here is Buddh International Circuit and I was amazed to find that there is a car racing track. It wasn’t too thrilling, though, we did not get to see any races, but it was fun strolling around imagining the sound of revving engines. We had some time to appreciate the amount of work done regarding infrastructure, and then we moved on.

3. Mathura
On the way to Agra, we stopped in the middle and reached the devout city of Mathura. In Hinduism, Mathura is famous as the place where Lord Krishna was born, so it has a very spiritual importance. Among them, we went to the Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple, where people believe Krishna was born. The environment at the temple was very calm and holy, which can positively affect a person’s physical and spiritual well-being. After that, we proceeded to Vishram Gath, a bathing ghat near the Yamuna River. The ghat was calm; it was fun to watch the locals and observe the sort of lively activities in the water, and the serenity of the place impressed us.
Vrindavan
A brief deviation from Mathura leads us to Vrindavan โ a famous city for its history and tradition. Two of the temples we visited were the Bankey Bihari Temple and the Radha Raman Temple. Every temple was lively in terms of colors and highly artistic, and both temples provided an insight into the traditions of the area. The trip is regarded as spiritual and informative as well as very beautiful. It was lively at the local temple as the believers and the curious walked around the temple complex.
Arriving in Agra: Taj Mahal โ The seven wonders of the world
Finally, we visited in Taj Mahal, Agra, our tour’s main attraction. We planned to arrive there early in the morning to take photographs with some level of professionalism, which we achieved. The Taj Mahal’s outer look consists of white marble and is rich in details this dazzled me even more. The Taj Mahal known as the ‘Crown of Palaces,’ is not only a monument but an overview of love. Built in 1631 by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, this monument is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We spent a few hours strolling around the monument, observing the well-done gardens, the pond, and the carved artwork.
The Return: Visiting the Agra Fort
The next place on our list was the Agra Fort, just a few km away from the Taj Mahal. Situated only about 2 kilometers west of the Taj Mahal, the Agra Fort can be considered the principal residence of the Mughal emperors in their reign until the shifting of the empire’s capital to Delhi in 1638. The fort is a massive structure that stands tall and is built in red sandstone, complementing the white marble of the Taj Mahal. We walked through its several palaces, mosques, and gardens, every place with something to narrate about the Mughal kings. It contains many Palaces, mosques, and gardens, but each gives the feeling of the Mughal’s royal lifestyle.
Besides exploring, we also try some delicacies food available in Agra. For lunch, we ordered food from Pinch of Spice a restaurant that is famous for North Indian food. The food was superb, with spicy odors and yummy tastes of Rajasthani delicacies, including butter chicken, paneer tikka, and naan. After that, we visited Calton Hotel and tasted Peter and Agra’s famous Petah, a sweet made from pumpkin. Finally, after the weekend, we came back to Delhi. It was an excellent trip for us, and we just enjoyed everything from the Yamuna Expressway trip to Agra Fort.
