It was day 2 of our Havelock Island trip, and after visiting Elephant Beach, we were planning to spend our evening at Kalapathar Beach. After returning around 3:30 PM from Elephant Beach, we reached the beach via cab.
As I proceed further, you must be wondering—is Kalapathar Beach a sunset beach? Well, it’s clearly not. The beach is popular for its sunrises, but somehow we couldn’t make it in the morning due to scuba diving in Havelock. Instead, we visited this pristine, photogenic beach in the evening.
So, let’s walk along my trails to plan a wonderful perfect trip to KalaPathar Beach.

When to Visit Kalapathar Beach

Kalapathar Beach Andaman, Things to do

From my personal experience, December, January, and February are the best months to visit Kalapathar Beach. During that time, you can experience pleasant weather with crystal-clear water and a calm ocean.
For those confused about whether to visit Kalapathar Beach during sunrise or sunset, definitely choose sunrise for breathtaking views & photography.

Best Things To Do at Kalapathar Beach

There is so much you can do at Kalapathar Beach without spending a penny, especially when you visit during sunrise or sunset hours. We reached at 4 PM in the evening and started walking on the shore to find a less crowded point to sit at the shacks and relax. As it was evening time, thankfully, the beach had very few tourists.

Beach Strolls

We leisurely walked along the shoreline, where there were so many small black stones that added more charm to the pristine beach. The pure white sand appeals to you to take off your shoes and walk barefoot. After walking 10-15 steps, we found a small shack where we placed our carry bag and water bottle. This allowed us to indulge in some photography freely without any hassle.

The late afternoon light at the beach provided perfect conditions for photography. The white sand, black stones all around, and crystal-clear water create a unique experience and make the beach different from others, especially for photographers. During the sunset, when light hits the waves, the water turns coral red, making photography mandatory. We spent around 1 hour taking photos and relaxing at the beach.

Sunrise Or Sunset Viewing

Watching the sunrise at Kalapathar would be incredible, as I can only imagine. But I guarantee, if you’re not a morning person and can’t wake up at 4:30 AM for the sunrise view, visit the beach between 4-5 PM for the sunset. Of course, the view is worth it for photography or sitting calmly and witnessing the surreal scenery. It was a moment I couldn’t ask for more as the whole sky turned into a canvas of vibrant colors, reflecting off the ocean and creating a serene ambiance.

Picnicking & Relaxing

While there are no restaurants directly on the beach, you’ll find small food stalls for refreshments. Sitting on the beach, watching the sunset, and enjoying a fruit plate or chips feels just like having a picnic here.

Shopping

As you step out of the beach area, there is a small shopping and snacks zone where we find shops selling pearl and seashell jewelry along with other handcrafted items. This is the beach where you can find some of the most reasonably priced pearl jewelry and other famous souvenirs of Andaman.

Food & Eating Out Near Kalapathar Beach

There are no meal-type restaurants available on the beach, but you can buy refreshing snacks like coconut water, Maggi, fruit plates, and chaat from the food stalls outside the beach area. These are mostly available during the evening.

Essential Tip

  • During our visit to Kalapathar Beach, we saw tiny corals and shells on the shore. Walking barefoot can be uncomfortable, so I recommend wearing comfy footwear to protect your feet.
  • Additionally, the beach lacks shaded areas, so bring a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun.
  • Carrying your water and snacks is also a good idea, as amenities are limited.
