Waterfalls are nature’s finest masterpiece on its canvas. Chasing a waterfall in Maharashtra during the rainy season is on everyone’s bucket list. My Heart does a peacock dance when I see millions of gallons of water froth over a cliff surrounded by lavish green mother nature. The best thing about waterfalls is how they transform during the rain; their powerful flow becomes a serene, calming cascade as the rain soothes them.
Are you, too, someone who eagerly waits for the monsoon to head towards the offbeat waterfalls around Pune and Mumbai? In mid-July, the monsoon season in Pune was in full swing, and my roommates and I were once again on the hunt for offbeat waterfalls like Nanemachi Waterfall. So, we decided to visit Kumbhe Waterfall, which is also in the Raigad district. We decided to drive our own car for this journey.

Where is Kumbhe Waterfall?

Kumbhe Waterfall is located in Kumbhe village in Mangaon (Raigad), Maharashtra. It is a stunning, offbeat destination that truly comes to life during the monsoon with its powerful, breathtaking flow. Situated near Manjurne village, it belongs to the panoramic Konkan region.
Kumbhe Waterfall is around 120 km from Pune. We took the Tamhini Ghat route to reach Mangaon village. The distance from Mumbai is around 150 km.

What Is The Best Time To Visit Kumbhe Waterfall?

I highly recommend visiting Kumbhe Waterfall during the rainy season (July to September). The monsoon brings new life to waterfalls in Maharashtra. This is the main reason I try to cover as many waterfalls around Pune as possible during the rainy season.
Advise: If you missed the monsoon season, You can plan for the next rainy season for the visit.

How to Reach There?

By Car:

The Kumbhe waterfall is around 110 Km from Pune and roughly takes 3 to 3.30 hours via waterfall ghat, i.e., Tamini Ghat. I traveled through a well-known roadย named Pune-Paud-Mulashi-Tahmini Ghat from Pune. Once the ghat section was over, I took the left to Pachad road on Bhagad MIDC road-Mangaon road-Nizampur. Then, I took the right Borawadi road, which is quite narrow and lonely. Stayed on the hydropower project road and remained cautious in landslide-prone areas. The road took me to the top, where I could see the beautiful waterfall after crossing a small tunnel. However, I couldn’t see the entire waterfall from there and had to reach the top, which was still a 10-minute drive ahead. After parking my vehicle, I walked further for another 5-10 mins over the big and slippery grass path to reach the viewpoint and enjoyed the breathtaking view to live the moment to the fullest. And guys, be cautious and vigilant while walking on the uneven trail and the cloudy conditions on the top.

By Bus:

If you want to travel by bus, it is not a very convenient option due to the lack of direct routes and frequent stops. You can travel to the Mangaon Bus Stand, which is the closest stoppage. From there, you can take a taxi or cab to your destination. Your cab or auto may drop you at a specific location, from where you can walk to the exact viewpoint.

By Train:

The closest railway station to Kumbhe Waterfall is Mangaon Railway Station, located at a distance of about 23 km. From Mangaon Railway Station, you can take a taxi or a cab to reach the waterfall. If you are coming from Mumbai, you can take the Panvel to Mangaon train.

What Is The Difficult Level Of Kumbhe Waterfall Viewpoint Trek?

It was surely an easy and straightforward waterfall trek where you have to walk around 1 km. You will enjoy beautiful views of the mountains and the waterfall, which flows down through the lush nature. Overall, it will be a fantastic trekking trip with stunning views.

Here the few top most attractions near the Waterfall:

1. Devkund Waterfall

It is located 34 km from Kumbhe Waterfall if you go via Khadsamble – Muthavali Rd. It is one of the famous waterfalls, so we decided to visit there as well. The view there is amazing! You can see water falling from a tall cliff into a clear pool below. The area is surrounded by green trees and mountains, making it a perfect spot for photos and enjoying nature.

2. Raigad Fort

It is a historical fort situated on a hill 820 meters above sea level. It is 35 Km away from the Kumbhe waterfall, which will take around 1 hour to reach via Pachad Road. I have been there many times, and the view from the fort is unimaginable. You can trek or hike to reach Raigad Fort. Raigad offers a perfect spot to observe and enjoy the scenic beauty of the Sahyadris. Viewpoints like Bhavani Tok, Hirkani Buruj, and the famous Takmak Tok provide superb views of the area. Don’t forget to watch the sunset from Takmak Tok, as it looks surreal.

3. Kumhe Tunnel

The tunnel is really long – 200 meters! It was a memorable experience to ride through it. The tunnel took us to the to the beautiful Kundalika Waterfall. When we went, there weren’t many people around. We took lots of pictures inside the tunnel. It was a dark and short tunnel where you could easily see the other side. We took some of our best pictures just outside the tunnel.
After we came out of the tunnel, we could hear the sound of rushing water. That’s when we knew we were getting close to the waterfall!

4. Sunset point

Sunset points are incredible nature’s gifts that most humans love to watch. The sunset point view near Kumbhe waterfall is a mother nature gift that we also planned. However, due to heavy rain our plan got disrupted. But if you plan to visit the Kumbhe waterfall, include it in your Kumbhe waterfall itinerary if you are visiting pre or post-monsoon.

5. Dense forests & Mountains

Mountains near Kumbhe waterfall are usually covered with multiple layers of trees. But during rainy seasons, it gets more dense. We observed the same while we were on our way to reach the mountain’s mammoth. There was a time when we were returning in the evening when our Hearts were palpitating due to heavy rains in the dense forests and lonely roads, though we enjoyed that too. During the day, it was amazingly covered with dense clouds. We clicked pictures by stopping on the road, and that time, that lonely road helped us to click fantastic pictures.

Where to Eat?

During our whole journey, we stopped at multiple places for small breaks where we enjoyed corn, hot vada paw, and kanda bhaji. Not to mention any famous ones, but we stopped mostly at random unknown hotels and local shops. Since Kunbhe waterfall is still a hidden gem, we didn’t find anything to eat near by.

Final Words

A road trip to this hidden Kunbhe Waterfall that we planned to cover in 7-8 hours got extended to more than 12 hours. This extension is no more than nature’s surprises that we got during our journey. Even after spending that time, I still believe that there is much more hidden there that can be explored, and it is our motivation to come back here again.
